Abstract

CUNHA, Susana Rangel Vieira da. WHAT IS THE PLACE OCCUPIED BY VISUAL MATERIALS IN EDUCATION RESEARCH?. Educ. Rev. [online]. 2015, vol.31, n.1, pp.69-92. ISSN 0102-4698.  https://doi.org/10.1590/0102-4698125502.

We live in contact on a daily basis with a diversity of visual and textual composed material. Despite the secular familiarity we have with visual materials and their expressive presence in our lives, we often overlook the different roles and combinations that these images assume on these materials. While mingling verbal and visual narratives is not a usual resource in the field of Education research, we have noticed a disposition to use visual materials in the investigative process as methodological possibility as well as a technique to narrate and presenting academic artefacts. This paper aims to perform an analytical survey on visual materials employed on children's studies conducted by a research line on childhood, children's education, and children, in the period of 2008 to 2012. Based on authors that discuss visuality in the contemporaneity, this author analyzes the visual materials that comprise the category of academic artefacts and the roles played by them.
