Abstract

BARROS, Aluizio A. de. A contribuição da educação nas indústrias inovadoras. Ensaio: aval. pol. públ. educ. [online]. 1997, vol.05, n.15, pp.151-160. ISSN 0104-4036.

The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between formal education ans technological innovation in the manufacturing industry. Are the dynamic and innovating work environments requiring and paying higher wages to the more educated workers? The central hypothesis - tested in the high technology region of San Francisco Bay, California -is that the average earnings of workers with more years of schooling are significantly higher in the electronics industry than in the traditional industries. The empirical evidence fron regression models confirms this expectation, and indicates that the wage differential between dynamic and traditional industries are higher for the workers with four years of college.
