This paper analyses the coordination and information problems of Brazilian federal teaching hospitals - HUs. The problem of scale and technical efficiency evaluation of hospitals is addressed. A Data Envelopment Analysis framework is used to identify the optimal consumption and production levels based on the best practice performance of all hospitals in the sample. The sample consists of 43 federal teaching hospitals - Hus and the data are 1996 annual observations.
