Abstract

At present, health system reform in Brazil dedicates a lot of emphasis on the reformulation of health personal, with innovations in continuing education in this field. These priorities indicate certification and recertification 01 health professionals, according to national health politics, concerning Health Family physicians and nurses, as a national strategy. This article reviews Brazilian and international literature related to certification and recertification of these professionals, presenting different aspects of evaluation based on competences and abilities, as well as the potential benefits for continuing education and quality improvement concerning basic health core and Brazilian health system as a whole. We propose main principles for professional certification and recertification and we establish a number of operational phases and aspects of such professionals as physicians and nurses who belong to Health Family strategy.
