Abstract

SANTOS, Adailton Ferreira dos  and  OLIOSI, Elisa Cristina. A importância do ensino de ciências da natureza integrado à história da ciência e à filosofia da ciência: uma abordagem contextual. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2013, vol.22, n.39, pp.195-204. ISSN 0104-7043.

This article aims to reflect on teaching Natural Sciences in the perspective of a contextual approach for better understanding of the relationship between science and society. This approach to teaching has been recommended by international organizations, by the Brazilian laws and also by researchers who advocate another kind of education in the contemporary, globalized and technological society. Thus, it is expected that teaching natural sciences will enable students to understand the scientific activity and contribute to overcoming distorted ideas about science. Our reflections are based on the papers of scholars such as Matthews, Gil-Pérez, Martins, Freire Jr. and the philosopher of science Bachelard, who advocate teaching integrated History of Science and Philosophy of Science in order to allow critical thinking of science and its implications for the current context. Moreover, this way of education contributes to the understanding of the influence of historical and social factors on the constitution process of natural sciences.
