Abstract

SILVA, Mayris de Paula  and  TRINDADE, Norma. NARRATING AND DECOLONIZING: MEMORIES OF FEMALE CAPOEIRA MASTERS AND EDUCATIONAL PATHS. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.72, pp.170-188.  Epub May 06, 2024. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2023.v32.n72.p170-188.

This article is a segment of the doctoral study “Education with hands on the floor: an educational principle based on the memories of female capoeira masters in the State of São Paulo”. It aims to recognize and give visibility to historically subalternized memories of women in capoeira. It problematizes the absence, silence and/or erasure of female memories in the collective, discursive, and documentary imagination of capoeira. In this endeavor, it uses inclusive, feminist and decolonial education perspectives mobilized by narratives of (auto) biographical education, produced in interviews-conversations. It concludes that the capoeira is deeply influenced by the effects of gender coloniality, although potentially, for its Afro-Brazilian ancestry of struggle and resistance to processes of ontological violation and human rights, (still) preserves conditions and possibilities to invent itself in order to create inclusive and decolonizing educational processes.

Keywords : Education; Women; Capoeira; Inclusion; Coloniality..
