Abstract

We present here a doctoral study in youth and adult education (EJA) that addresses issues of gender and sexuality experienced by transvestite and transgender students. The main goal is to understand the meanings in the daily lives of transvestites and transsexuals based on their lived experiences in EJA. The studies of Arroyo (2014, 2017), Bento (2011), Freire (1996, 2001, 2018), Hooks (2017, 2019), Oliveira (2017, 2020) and others have contributed to this research. It is a qualitative research that highlights the production of (trans) researchers and analyzes the writings (Evaristo, 2020) of body letters written by author-participants. The main results allow us to point out that the reflections implement gender relations based on a colonial matrix of power, which in the production of knowledge, in life, in feeling and in existence have the reproduction of the binary logic man/woman as an instrument of domination. Furthermore, lived experiences and insurgent voices build their “cosmoperceptions” of gender and education by revealing what they have experienced in school and in life, with strategies of transgression and resistance.
