The text emphasizes the importance of seeking coherence between the evaluation and teaching practice. This understanding puts the evaluation focus on stories, knowledge, people and intentions, with the understanding that the evaluation stories can produce knowledge and transform people. The propositions on evaluation, presented in the article, are inserted into a critical perspective for the educational evaluation, called emancipatory evaluation (SAUL, 1985). The discussion of this approach has support in assumptions of Paulo Freire’s pedagogy, worldwide recognized educator as the main reference for liberating education in the twentieth century. At the end of this article there are discussions on the implications of using Freire’s references for the learning evaluation and, particularly important, conditions that must be considered when you want to change the practice of evaluation towards a democratic evaluation.
