This study aims at analyzing the relationship between theory and practice in internships. The first part deals with the theoretical resistance regarding internships; it highlights how inappropriately the subject is treated in initial training and points to the need to articulate it as a reflection of practice. The second part discusses the political problematic, demonstrating how internships are regulated (the legal provisions that structure the issue) and the implications of regulations for curricular policy. It analyzes the issue from epistemological and methodological standpoints. By considering some limits and possibilities that bring new meaning to this relationship, we conclude that it can only take place if the internship becomes a teacher qualification project, it must enhance discussion about the teachers’ routine, about professional practices, and the personal/professional transformation of interns.
