This study is based on observations and analyses of different visual materials, written or developed, used in the first grades of elementary school in both state and private municipal schools. Assuming that teaching is a profession that requires the learning and applying of specific knowledge, it is possible to discuss how the development of teacher knowledge occurs. Therefore, to understand and analyze the chosen reading and writing activities used to help literacy, the research investigated some of the everyday activities carried out by educational activities to identify and establish the physical setting of the “literacy environment”.
