Educational institutions are adopting communication devices provided by the network that enable pedagogical approaches that promote collaborative learning. This article deals with the conclusions obtained by conducting a documentary research with the purpose of understanding how schools create and maintain the communication devices with students. The methodology used was qualitative or interpretive. The methodological procedure consisted of the analysis of written online documents: blogs from municipal elementary schools. The research corpus consisted of 24 blogs from municipal elementary schools in Florianopolis. Based on their interactive, communicative, educational and institutional characteristics, the aim of the analysis was to understand how schools are providing devices that support the development of communicative environments. Blogs are a potentially interactive communication device that allows co-authoring, the exchange of roles between sender and receiver, and the narrative becomes a joint construction. The study found that the underutilization of the interactivity feature is due to the fact that the blog has been used by a single author, which reduces its communicative ability and implies the need to develop strategies for the technical field of the device, as well as a deeper understanding of the meaning of interactivity. The communicative environment needs to be enhanced in the school and blogs may play an important role.
