Abstract

ALMEIDA, José Guilherme de Andrade; MORAES, Ana Beatriz Lago  and  FERREIRA, Eliana Lúcia. Physical education in the first years of elementary school: The outsider role of curricular component and the teacher. Educ. Puc. [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.2, pp.175-182. ISSN 1519-3993.  https://doi.org/10.1590/edpuc19n2014010.

The relation of power among individuals, society and the state has destabilized the role of physical education in schools, resulting in actions such as resolution number 2.253/2013 from Department of Education in the State of Minas Gerais, which detracts from the teacher of physical education the responsibility for the curricular component in the first years of elementary school. The aim of this paper is to elucidate the social processes that legitimize the action of the State, using a systematic and critical combination of relevant bibliographic references concerning the identity of physical education in the school routine. Thus, we outlined an identity proposal and argue that the biological, social and cultural identity is not covered when physical education is taught by the class teacher. We conclude that the state is not concerned with the gaps created by its public policies and we require coherence among physical education teachers to claim the position of key actors for the full educational development of students.
