Abstract
SANTOS, Paulo Reis dos. Entre necas, peitos e picumãs: subjetividade e construção identidária das travestis do Jardim Itatinga. ETD [online]. 2008, vol.09, n.02, pp.206-206. ISSN 1676-2592.
Among the so called sexual or social minorities, the transvestites are the most perversely marked by their sexual identity, almost completely forgotten by gender studies. Living and structuring their identities from illegality and marginality, it is difficult to find them out of prostitution. In this study, from what Foucault called scientia sexualis and as erotica, I analyze the way truthful discourses lead to sexism, misogyny and homophobia, and I try to comprehend how this structural violence provokes the loss of transvestites’ sense of citizenship and, at the same time, how they subject and build themselves throughout the processes of resistance to the mechanisms of power. My question is: how come transvestites, professionals of sex, structure their identities from the social no-place they occupy in the urban scenario in the city of Campinas.
