This article is a report of a research whose objective was to make evident the conceptions of teachers about difference, how they perceive the relationship between differences and school, as well as the way through which they deal with differences. The teachers responded to the question: What do you think about differences and how do you deal with them? To study the responses, content analysis was used. The theoretical framework adopted to think about difference was the historical-cultural approach of culture in Psychology, whose conception of subject is outlined by the appropriation of culture in the educational process. According to these teachers, difference is related to racial, physical, economic, social, cultural differences as well as differences in learning rhythms. The category “Respect” was the most cited attitude as a way of dealing with differences. The presence of contradictory responses seems to indicate a crystallized view about difference or an incipient level of reflection on the subject.
