The systematic for the offer of technological and professional education in Brazil has changed. The criteria is no longer related to professional areas, but to the technological axis. What were the alleged reasons the Ministry of Education and the National Council of Education pointed to justify this change? Will it simply mean changing labels or will it bring deeper political and pedagogic implications? This article deals with the context in which the motivations for this change emerged, the official reasons presented, the expectations created around the adoption of the new organizational criteria and its implications on the policy of regulation of the expansion of this kind of educational offer. More specifically, some favorable arguments to the decision of including common polytechnic topics in the pedagogic projects of the courses and the emphasis given to interdisciplinary practice will be developed.
