Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Sergio Emilio Juárez. Funding of higher education in Mexico and Brazil. Similarities and diferences. J. Pol. Educ-s [online]. 2020, vol.14, e71287.  Epub Apr 20, 2022. ISSN 1981-1969.  https://doi.org/10.5380/jpe.v14i0.71287.

The funding of higher education in the Latin American region presents a series of similar guidelines that seek to adjust to the global economic trend imposed by developed countries and international organizations. This trend is alien to social demands and gives priority to the needs of markets. In this article a comparative study of the funding of higher education between Mexico and Brazil is carried out through comparable indicators obtained from different official and academic documents. Observing that these countries with different education systems from their history and development have decided to adopt the recommendations from the World Bank, presenting problems whose origin is largely due to the market approach in the allocation of economic resources to higher education.
