The present work analyzes the trajectory of the Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation Scholarships - PIBID, starting, initially, from the contexts that influenced its creation, in addition to highlighting the modification processes that it has undergone over the years. For this, bibliographical and documentary research was carried out. Based on this study, it was possible to understand that the referred Program was constituted from the need to foster the demand for undergraduate courses since many areas of teaching lacked trained teachers to teach in public schools. The PIBID then appears, intending to promote improvements in teacher training courses, especially concerning the contact of academics with the reality of basic education schools in the country, thus seeking to relate theory and practice. It was observed that the PIBID configuration was significantly changed in 2018, although many changes have already occurred since 2015, due to budget cuts. Thus, this study seeks to demonstrate the paths taken by the Program until reaching its current configuration.
