Abstract

FERREIRA, Matheus Mendes dos Santos; MAID, Luciana Colares; COSTA, Simone de Melo  and  CALDEIRA, Antônio Prates. National Curriculum Guidelines for medical courses in Brazil: changes in the process of formation. J. Pol. Educ-s [online]. 2023, vol.17, e89451.  Epub Oct 11, 2023. This study aims to discuss the recent changes in the National Curriculum Guidelines for medical school in Brazil. It is a study based on the analysis of documents related to guidelines for medical training. The results reflect important changes in the new guidelines, which are divided into three areas: care, management and health education. Among the changes, the following are highlighted: a better social approach, encouraging the inclusion of cross-curricular content in the curriculum, the proposed periodic assessment in medical courses and reorientation of medical education model to the early integration of the student in the public health network. The new guidelines suggest a consistent advance in medical education that responds to the need for medical care in the Brazilian National Health System.
