Abstract

PICOLI, Bruno Antonio; CAREGNATO, Milena  and  GUIMARAES, Roberta. Authority, obedience and discipline in education: reflections on the discourse of the School Without Party Movement and supporters of school militarization. Educação. Porto Alegre [online]. 2021, vol.44, n.3, e37364.  Epub Apr 29, 2024. ISSN 1981-2582.  https://doi.org/10.15448/1981-2582.2021.3.37364.

This article seeks to reflect on the discourse undertaken by the School Without Party Movement (MESP) and by the supporters of school militarization (PECIM) on authority, obedience and discipline and the Arendt's notion of "authority in education". Through bibliographic research it defines the concept of "authority in education" and, based on manifestations published by supporters of MESP and PECIM, their conceptions of authority, obedience and discipline. After contrasting them, it concludes that the concept of authority, obedience and discipline of MESP and PECIM exposes the brazilian democracy to a radical danger because they limit Education to unquestionable authority and to blind obedience. Finally, based on the notion of "authority in education", it reflects and proposes a provocation about what can be the obedience and the discipline in education in a society that want to be democratic.

Keywords : school without party; militarization; authority; obedience; discipline.
