Abstract

GELINIER, Jean-Yves. Expose by protecting, a paradox of the social policies whitin French social and medical-social institutions. Rev. Diálogo Educ. [online]. 2018, vol.18, n.59, pp.1041-1064.  Epub Feb 05, 2020. ISSN 1981-416X.  https://doi.org/10.7213/1981-416x.18.059.ds03.

In France, through the application of social policies, social and medicosocial institutions bring together vulnerable people in semi-closed areas, some of whom are violent and others frailer and therefore more likely to be victims. The social workers working there are therefore confronted on a daily basis with a paradoxical injunction to protect the external society by exposing them to the internal violence of the institution. This situation puts the social worker in a state of cognitive dissonance and psychological discomfort, due to the inconsistency of the situation, where in order to continue to find meaning in his mission, he will have to set up adaptive behaviours afterwards that generate new subjective coherences, such as negation, forgetting or even rejection of the victims and relativization, habituation or denial of this violence.

Keywords : Violence; Social and medico-social institutions; Users; Meaning; Rationalization.
