This article analyzes the result of a research carried out in a public university on teacher education and teaching practice, in which one of the objectives was to know the students’ and teachers’ perceptions about the quality of the undergraduate teaching in this university. Based on a predominantly qualitative approach, of exploratory and descriptive character, data on teaching practice, teaching quality and teacher education were collected from a Pedagogy Course. The hermeneutic-dialectic method was used as a data analysis method. A questionnaire was used to collect data from nine university teachers and 84 undergraduate students. As a result, problems related to teachers’ practice, students’ behavior and course organization were identified. Regarding to the teachers’ practice, emphasized in this text, problems related to didactics, the incoherence between theory and practice and teachers’ commitment were detected, which goes back, necessarily, to the teacher education issue. The investigation evidenced the vulnerability of the teacher’s work which, although carried out by professionals from the education area, is not free from being considered inadequate, especially if the speeches are not accompanied by corresponding practices.
