Current article shows how rule games may be a methodological resource in the organization of the teaching of Mathematics and in the formation of student´s theoretical thought. The essay is a section of a doctoral research undertaken in 2011 at the State University of Maringá, Brazil. We worked with 5th and 6th year students of government-run Elementary Schools in Maringá, who had lower than 6.0 scores in Mathematics and who were forwarded to the Interdisciplinary Program for Research and Support to the Exceptional Student by the school, due to their learning difficulties. Foregrounded on the Kalah, and on Historical and Cultural Psychology studies, we described the learning activities by students while playing to acknowledge that learning implies dialecticity and interaction between the subject and knowledge. Taking games as human and social activities, they may be seen as a methodological resource in the organization of the teaching of Math, making possible the formation of theoretical thought. A new vision on the ludic aspect by the teacher is required, so that learning and psychic development could be achieved.
