In this paper we discuss the influence of the sociocultural aspect wherein the school is placed for the perception of teacher valorization according to a narrative by an Elementary school (early years) teacher. The reflections presented here were developed during a study that aimed to investigate teacher valorization in narrative of Elementary school teacher (early years) working in the municipal education network of Mariana, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The methodology included a bibliographical survey on teacher valorization designed to understand how the issue has been discussed in the literature in the area and contemplated by legislation. Besides that, we conducted narrative interview, whose findings show that teacher valorization goes beyond the objective dimension (working conditions and career, development, and remuneration), that is privileged in related studies. The research demonstrated the importance of the subjective dimension for the valorization, thus including the human interactions experienced in the exercise of the profession, and the perception of social recognition. In this sense, we present the most prominent facts of the professional career of one of the teacher participating in the study, and analyze her perceptions of teaching both in a school located in a rural area and another one in the suburbs of Mariana, seeking to understand to what extent the sociocultural context plays an influential role in the perception of teacher valorization.
