Abstract

CUNHA, Ivan Ferreira. Vienna Circle: physicalism and the utopia of unified science. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2018, vol.32, n.66, pp.943-963.  Epub Sep 22, 2020. ISSN 1982-596X.  https://doi.org/10.14393/revedfil.issn.0102-6801.v32n66a2018-01.

This paper presents the continuum between two of Vienna Circle proposals: physicalism, the project of elaborating a logically structured language in which all statements from the various branches of science can be formulated; and the movement for the unity of science, that aimed at establishing a network of cooperation among people who adopt the scientific attitude in their work in the many areas of science. In performing such a discussion, it is possible to notice that the aims of the Vienna Circle fit into a political and educational context of dissemination of the scientific attitude.

Keywords : Neurath; Carnap; Physicalism; Utopia; Education.
