Abstract

GOMIDE, Ana Paula de Ávila. The White Ribbon and authoritarian personality: a Critical Theory’s contribution. Educação e Filosofia [online]. 2018, vol.32, n.66, pp.1075-1097.  Epub Sep 22, 2020. ISSN 1982-596X.  https://doi.org/10.14393/revedfil.issn.0102-6801.v32n66a2018-06.

Assuming philosophical theses by the so-called Critical Theory - Adorno, Horkheimer and Marcuse -, this paper proposes a discussion about the authoritarian personality at taking some elements of Michael Haneke’s “The White Ribbon”. It accounts for the themes on education, individual’s upbringing and authoritarian personality’s psychosocial bases, all of them studied by the Frankfurtian thinkers. Concisely, Haneke’s film depicts a cultural atmosphere inclined towards fascism. It sheds light upon perverse effects of civilization’s repressive load and subjetcs’ non-differentiation: domination of nature and how oppressed nature, in your turn, seems to strike back.

Keywords : Critical Theory; Individua; Education; Authoritarianism.
