Abstract

CABAU, Nubia Carla Ferreira  and  COSTA, Maria Luisa Furlan. The Theory of Transactional Distance: a mapping of Brazilian theses and dissertations. Rev. Elet. Educ. [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.2, pp.431-447. ISSN 1982-7199.  https://doi.org/10.14244/198271992268.

The present article focuses on the Theory of Transactional Distance formulated by Michael Grahame Moore and aims at identifying where and how Transactional Distance Theory has been approached by Brazilian researchers from 2000 to 2016. In order to achieve this objective, a mapping and an analysis of the theoretical assumptions of Transactional Distance Theory were carried out taking into consideration the Brazilian academic production in the delimited period of time. As a qualitative study, the methodological procedure adopted was content analysis. The bibliographical and documentary nature was supported by the State of Knowledge type of study in doctoral theses and dissertations distributed in 19 academic productions in which the concept of Transactional Distance Theory was discussed. Based on the content analysis, the results point out that the Transactional Distance Theory is used by Brazilian scholars in case studies to validate the theory, and as support to discuss pedagogical, technological, developmental and structuring aspects of the Distance Education. The results of the study show the need for further researches that can both indicate new hypotheses and reformulate the existing theory, by adapting it to the needs and specificities of the Brazilian educational, social and political system.
