Abstract

RODRIGUEZ, Laura Graciela. CHURCH AND EDUCATION IN ARGENTINA DURING THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY. Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.1, pp.263-278.  Epub Mar 20, 2024. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v14n1-2015-16.

This article is based mainly on the analysis of the editorial of the newspaper Consudec posted from 1963 to 2008 by its successive Directors. We intend to show that it existed throughout the second half of the 20th century, a group of intellectuals specialists in education, which acted on behalf of the interests of the Church hierarchy, occupying senior positions within the education portfolio. On the other hand, we will see that in different provinces, the subject of religious education was more varied and complex than often assumed the national narrative. Finally, we consider that although these intellectuals did their best to stop the repeal of the Federal law (1993), his power of influence began to decline noticeably towards the beginning of the new century and could not prevent the passage of a new Education Act in 2006.

Keywords : Argentina; CONSUDEC; religious education; Catholic intellectuals; Federal law.
