Abstract

ERMEL, Tatiane de Freitas  and  ROCHA, Marcelo da Silva. Ostentor Brazileiro. Pictorial and literary journal (1845-1846): An educational project of the Brazilian citizen. Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.1, pp.337-356.  Epub Mar 20, 2024. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v14n1-2015-20.

The historical trajetory of journals in Brazil in the 19th century can not be put forward without a rapprochement with the history of the country and its most important discussions, linked to the educational formation, the education values, habits and the culture of local communities as well as the contribution to the formation of a national consciousness. Therefore, we examine, from the discourse of Ostensor Brazileiro - Pictorial and literary journal, published between 1845-46, the formative aspect of the individual, within a general perspective, and his links to a process, still in- cipient, of feeling or national consciousness. Still, the connection that articulates the relation be- tween the incorporation of values and issues such as primary education, poetry, marriage, literary events, dances and parties, analyzes, at the same time, the pages of the journal: a representation of Brazil, showing images and texts proudly, and a programmatic intention and political recognition of the country, effectively, as autonomous and independent.
