Abstract

ARAUJO, Marta Maria de  and  FIGUEIREDO, Franselma Fernandes de. Textbooks to homogeneous elementary education (Rio Grande do Norte, 19st century). Cad. Hist. Educ. [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.1, pp.323-347. ISSN 1982-7806.  https://doi.org/10.14393/che-v15n1-2016-13.

In the 19st century, the messages of the presidents of the Province of Rio Grande do Norte and the reports of the directors-general of Public Instruction, mainly (documentary corpus of this work) reveals a systematic acquisition of textbooks for elementary education. Centered in the 19st century in Rio Grande do Norte and in the city of Caicó, the work aims to reflect on the formation uniformity of the pupil of elementary education, fostered by the admission of the printed textbook, nationally recognized. For analysis of the documentary corpus, we use the understanding of Choppin (2004), i.e., the textbook considered cultural object, located at the intersection of rules of political power, pedagogy, editorial production and society of schooling. In terms of findings, the political and educational authorities in Rio Grande do Norte were fully satisfied that the requirement of the printed textbook, nationally recognized, standardised not only the public education, but, necessarily, ordered a formative uniformity of the elementary education student.
