Abstract

NAVARRO, Daniel Fernando Sanchez; KUHN, Martin  and  FRANTZ, Walter. PAULO FREIRE’S IDEAS IN THE 21ST CENTURY - QUESTIONS AND CONTEMPORARY VALIDITY. Eccos Rev. Cient. [online]. 2022, n.60, e15258.  Epub Feb 08, 2024. ISSN 1983-9278.  https://doi.org/10.5585/eccos.n60.15258.

The aim of this text is to propose a reflection on the relevance of Paulo Freire’s ideas, considering questions oriented to it nowadays. It faces the challenge of searching, creating, or reinterpreting his ideas towards the construction of a fairer and more sympathetic world through the educational act. That is, it approaches its validity and pertinence to education today. The proposed reflection is structured in two movements. The first one questions the Nonpartisan School Movement, presenting its intentions, its limits and how the Freirean ideas could address its concerns. The second movement questions the legitimacy of the arguments presented in the book “Desconstruindo Paulo Freire”, organized by Santos (2017). This work is not explored in its entirety, once it seems a compilation of matters not necessarily related, although they share a common point: to deconstruct Paulo Freire’s thought. Then, some fragments that exemplify its goal are analyzed in this paper, allowing the development of reflections on the pertinence of Paulo Freire’s pedagogical ideas. In conclusion, the essay reviews Freire’s socio-political and pedagogical humanist conceptions, considering them as promising when it comes to the construction of a more democratic, free, fair and sympathetic world. It is anticipated that the theses stated by the two movements fit into a scenario of blaming and criminalizing the social movements, holding them responsible for the failure of public education.

Keywords : Freire’s contributions for contemporaneity; deconstructing Paulo Freire; nonpartisan school movement.
