Throughout history, the concepts of competence and ability have been consolidated under different theoretical perspectives. Although these concepts are often used wrongly, different skills will emerge for the construction, studies in the fields of psychology, the search and search for studies that understand and that gave rise to the use of terms and skills as prefixes added of the suffixes “non-cognitive”, “socio-emotional”, “for life” and “for the 21st century”. In this theoretical context, assuming the theoretical approach, it presents the article as an objective as an objective point of view and presents as proposed nomenclatures. For this, it starts from the conceptualization of the terms competence and ability and their consequences, passing through the psychology of personality and criticism of the use of the Big Five model (ALMUND) as a theoretical construction to define these terms, ending with the presentation of the concepts and the search for convergence. in the definitions and perspectives of the different agents involved: UNESCO - United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO, 2000), CASEL - Collaboration to Advance Social and Emotional Learning (PAYTON et al. 2008) and P21 - Partnership for Learning of the 21st Century (P21, 2009).
