The Large Scale Assessments play an important role in the assessment of educational quality, for example, we have the National Secondary Education Examination (ENEM). Therefore, this research aims to analyze how Brazilian scientific production (dissertations and theses) has approached and used the ENEM as a Large Scale Assessment policy. Regarding the methodological procedures adopted, we used Scientometrics and Discursive Textual Analysis. Based on the analyses, we verified an increase in production over the years, in addition to the occurrence of research carried out in all Brazilian regions. In general, we identified that this exam has been implicated in the curricular organization, in the teaching autonomy, as well as in the educational processes. Furthermore, although the intention of ENEM is to evaluate the quality of education and improve teaching, it has not adequately achieved this, which may be related to the lack of a deeper evaluation, especially related to social issues. It may also be related to the exam not giving due feedback to the schools, regarding the results obtained, as well as for not considering the different realities of Brazil. Therefore, changes are needed in the use and understanding of the ENEM, so that it effectively contributes to educational improvement.
