CERICATO, Itale Luciane. The teaching profession under analysis in Brazil: a literature review. R. Bras. Est. Pedag. [online]. 2016, vol.97, n.246, pp.273-289. ISSN 2176-6681. https://doi.org/10.1590/S2176-6681/373714647.
Based on a literature review, the article aimed to analyze some of the issues surrounding the teaching profession today, such as the difficulty of establishing a professional status for teachers and the challenges they face in the current Brazilian educational scenario. The data provide information on the institution of the profession in the country, aspects that question the legitimacy of teachers as education professionals, and some points that need to be considered with a view to overcoming this challenge. In relation to these points, it was concluded that it is urgent and necessary to discuss the restructuring of initial and continuing education as a central axis linked to educational policies aimed at the enhancement of teachers' career, working conditions and remuneration, that is to say, actions for attracting and retaining good professionals for the teaching career, placing the profession in a social position consistent with that of a nation that wants to be developed.
