FARIAS, Isabel Maria Sabino de and MUSSI, Amali de Angelis. Research and training of teachers with teaching cases: fundamentals and potentialities. Roteiro [online]. 2021, vol.46, e27234. Epub June 17, 2021. ISSN 2177-6059. https://doi.org/10.18593/r.v46i.27234.
This theoretical essay discusses the adoption of the teaching cases approach in teacher training. It aims to critically dialogue with studies and research about the formative and investigative potentialities of teaching cases. We propose a discussion on the concept of teaching cases, the various terminologies used in the approach to the topic, its emergence as an instrument of research and training, and the theoretical and practical foundations involved in its conceptualization. Furthermore, we explore its potential for understanding teachers' development in a critical reflexive perspective, especially concerning their thinking, personal beliefs and theories, professional knowledge construction, and pedagogical reasoning. Thus, through a dense analysis of the theoretical production regarding the theme, we verified that teaching cases could significantly contribute to knowledge production in Education. This theoretical production also contributes to introducing training and research instruments that mobilize and value some professional aspects, such as teachers' knowledge, protagonism, professional socialization, and a sensitive hearing of what happens in the profession. We expect to contribute to deepen and disseminate the debate on teaching cases as an instrument in teacher training and knowledge production in the education field.
