The present work sought to understand how it is offered and organized the Education of Young and Adults in the prison of Teixeira de Freitas, Bahia, and, if this process contributes to the realization of the human right to the education of prisoners, under the perspective of national and international regulations on the subject and having as theoretical reference Claude (2005), Defourny and Siqueira (2009), Silva (2011), Julião (2012), Onofre (2012, 2016), among others. The research adopted the case study method, conducting individual interviews with the teachers and with the responsible for the educational activities and collective interviews with 42 inmates of the closed regime. The results pointed to inadequate space for educational activities, lack of security, noise disturbances, unpleasant odors and lack of didactic resources. Finally, we understand that imprisonment must guarantee prisoners the right to education, for two reasons: because this is a human right, that is, they are all holders of it, and, because education is an instrument to achieve reintegration social, since this is the purpose of the sentence in the Brazilian State.
