Abstract

The intervention here described results from a research and intervention project developed with a 11 children and adolescents with educational needs living under institutional care with the aim of developing life competencies for their integral development. The project was developed using qualitative methodologies, namely participatory action-research, using sociocultural animation techniques. The intervention consisted in the active involvement of the participants in the formative workshops. The results reveal that the intervention had positive results as evidenced in the higher motivation and interest in the enactment of the activities and learning tasks, in the intensifying social interaction and communication skills, and the learning capacity/achieved, therefore underlying the benefits of non-formal education in the development of children and adolescents with educational needs.
