Abstract

AZEVEDO, Hugo José Coelho Corrêa de  and  MEIRELLES, Rosane Moreira Silva de. THE TEACHING OF ZOOLOGY IN BRAZILIAN EDUCATION: A HISTORICAL-DOCUMENTARY RESCUE (1837-2002). Hist. Educ. [online]. 2023, vol.27, e128647.  Epub Dec 10, 2023. ISSN 2236-3459.  https://doi.org/10.1590/2236-3459/128647.

Zoology is the Biology area which studies animals in their different contexts. In this article, the objective is to promote a historical rescue of the Teaching of Zoology in Brazil with the time frame of the year 1837 by the document of creation of the imperial college of Pedro II, where Zoology was presented for the first time in the formal documents, until the National Curriculum Parameters of the year 2002. The data showed two moments of Zoology Teaching in Brazil: from 1838 to 1982 with the zoological basis strictly in the animal context and in scientific knowledge and; from 1982 onwards, with the inclusion of citizenship training in zoological content and social scope, denoting that the identity process also became the focus of Zoology Teaching. Considering this historical rescue, it is concluded that the first moment is aligned with a context of modernist Zoology, and that the second moment, when the identity process also became a focus, there is the advent of Post-Modern Zoology for Brazilian Education .
