Abstract

This text aims to present part of the biography and bibliography of the teacher Luiz Gonzaga Fleury (1891-1969), from Sorocaba, SP, as well as to comprehend which conception about the teaching of reading is present in speeches, published in different journals, from 1922 to 1936. To this end, as this research is a documentary, the studies are based on the perspectives of Cultural History, that provides to the research a guiding for the investigative approach on the representations concerning teaching of reading on the articles published by this author in the journals Revista Nacional and Revista Educação, and in the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo. Due to the fact of working directly with written statements, Bakhtin theory of enunciation shows a relevant theoretical contribution to understand the discursive issues of a determined time and place. The research is carried out upon the premises that the texts can host traits in the language structuring, indicating a written speech highlighted by the representation and intentionality of reader activity, which are shown to be produced to teachers training regarding to the teaching of reading and writing.
