Abstract

This article deals with speeches of memory about the teachers who worked at Colégio de Pedro II in the Nineteenth Century. The school was created in 1837 as part of the Empire's project to establish a nationality, amid of Brazilian provincial insurrections. The documental corpus used for this text was the Revista da Semana. The choice of use this historical source is related to the fact that some of their main collaborators were students and teachers of that educational institution. Through the analysis it was possible to identify the existence of a monumental memory about of this teaching staff, formed by men with notable knowledge.
