Abstract: After a brief analysis of nineteenth-century century antecedents, this text focuses on revealing certain aspects of the changes promoted by educational reforms implemented in Chile during the twentieth century regarding the knowledge and management of affective emotional environment of young people in high schools. From a theoretical point of view, the conceptual contributions of Peter Stearns (1985), with his notion of ‘emotionology’, and William Reddy (2001) and his idea of ‘emotional’ regimes are references for this article. The research is based on written sources from official authorities and the high schools themselves, as well as books and articles written by experts and educational essayists of the time.
