Abstract

The aim of this text is to analyze materiality and pedagogical practices in the context of school groups from two municipalities of Serra Gaúcha, Farroupilha and Garibaldi, from 1926 to 1949. With referencial of Cultural History and the History of Education, we mobilize school material culture, especially books, as categories of analysis, linking them with pedagogical practices. Methodologically, we proceed with historical documentary analysis of textbooks, photographs, school book-keeping documents such as minutes and Oral History. In local school groups, the books were significant, because it was a period of expansion in the distribution of copies, circulation and use in pedagogical practices, many of which were marked by nationalism.
