Abstract

MOREIRA, SEBASTIANA APARECIDA  and  BERTOLIN, JULIO CESAR GODOY. Evaluation of the contribution of program more education for public elementary school: case study of Rio Verde (GO). Rev. Comunic [online]. 2016, vol.23, n.1, pp.107-125. ISSN 2238-121X.  https://doi.org/10.15600/2238-121X/comunicacoes.v23n1p107-125.

The qualification of public elementary public is one of the biggest contemporary challenges of education in Brazil. In recent years, the federal government and state and local governments have made efforts to improve the factors that contribute to student learning. In this context, one of the most important and audacious designs is the More Education Program (MEP), which is based on the idea of integral education through full-time school. Since its beginning, in 2008, more than 15,000 schools, in hundreds of municipalities in this country, implemented this program in order to improve the quality of public schools. However, is the program succeeding and reaching its goals? Is it helping to improve learning? Searching for answers to such questions, this article presents an evaluation of the MEP through a case study in the city of Rio Verde (GO). Despite the IDEB’s uncertainties, the perception of students, monitors, teachers and managers indicates that the program is succeeding and reaching its goals.
