This article discusses the Positivist Church in the context of the history of education. In Brazil, positivism, in its most orthodox facet, developed through Miguel Lemos (1854-1917) and Teixeira Mendes (1855-1927), founder and interpreters. Reforming the institutions was one of the main goals of his followers, while the education the task of assisting the formation of new habits of mind and character. Defending public education, domestic, non-mandatory, with the woman as an educational agent. They expressed a society directed to the installation of a free order, whose content was uploaded by moral training. The formation of nationality was important trace of this project. Education is eminently political action with the man Regeneration and society grounded in a comprehensive reform of the institutions. The mass of documents by the institution of the file is placed as an important research potential to be exploited by those who surf the history of education.
