The article aims to present oral manifestations of the age of five when they realized counting practices, while experienced teaching activities related to one of the conceptual count links: ordering number system , which involved characters from Brazilian folklore and the Papuans Indians. The qualitative research was characterized as case study and was conducted in a school education children maintained by an ONG. The theoretical and methodological foundations were supported in cultural-historical perspective. The analysis the speeches involved three topics: manifestations concerning legends, manifestations related to counting practices and manifestations related to the influence of school practice.
