In this text, we present research results that aimed to verify to what extent the factors that influence the dropout of the undergraduate course in Philosophy at UFMS are related to the formation and the developed competences. From a qualitative-quantitative perspective, data collection was carried out through bibliographic analysis, document analysis, questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Eleven interviews and 304 questionnaires were applied to the research subjects. Among the results obtained, the need for conceptual adaptation of the PPC to the needs of a night teaching degree course stands out; competences linked to the core of the course are fully developed, while those linked to teaching are perceived by graduates as deficient, which demonstrates an emphasis on research subjects; the main factor that motivates the dropout is the conciliation between work and study, combined with a shock when coming into contact with the academic reality.
