The article is the result of a Master’s research whose general aim was to examine the effects produced by the implementation of the Brazilian National Common Core Curriculum (Base Nacional Comum Curricular, or BNCC, in Portuguese) in teaching the initial years of Elementary School in private schools in a city in Rio Grande do Sul. In particular, the study sought to examine the ways of being a teacher constituted by the implementation of the BNCC in private institutions. The theoretical bases used are based on the theories of Foucault and his commentators. The empirical material was formed by statements of ten educators, obtained in interviews, throughout 2021, about their school practices, mobilized by the execution of the BNCC. The analytical strategy used to operate on this set of utterances was discourse analysis, as proposed by Foucault. The scrutiny of the material showed that the implementation of the BNCC generates a (de)territorialized teacher subject, relocating him to another place, in which the rules are well defined, saying what and how students should learn, and how the teacher should teach, thus guaranteeing the functioning of neoliberal rationality.
