In general, educational evaluation systems have a common objective of finfing, ways to efficiently improve the education. Besides edentifying results in the pupils´ learning the overall educational system is also evaluated. In this context, the Minas Gerais Evaluation System of Public Education ( Sistema Mineiro de Avaliação da Educação Pública - SIMAVE) was introduced in 2000 by the State Secretary of Education. The data from the state of Minas Gerais regarding SIMAVE-2002 are hierarchically grouped, that is, pupils are grouped by classrooms are grouped by schools.
