Abstract
FERRARO JUNIOR, Luiz Antonio and BURSZTYN, Marcel. Imaginário, emancipação e colonialidade: estudo das intervenções sociais no movimento dos fundos de pasto da Bahia. Revista da FAAEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2010, vol.19, n.34, pp.109-120. ISSN 0104-7043.
When social interventions are related to coloniality, they tend to homogenize social groups and to impose preconceived strategies for the future, which do not raise bottomup. The qualitative research, developed through document analysis, participatory observation while social interventions were implemented and interviews were realized with employees and peasants, revealed three different categories of intervention: communitarians, modernizers and post-modern. Traditional communities in general, as is the case of “fundos de pasto”, due to their idiosyncrasies, require a careful dialogue. However, public interventions focused on those communities have proven to reinforce coloniality. The concepts of alterity and rationality do not converge in such interventions, and thus emancipation from coloniality is unreachable. It would be necessary to unveil the actual diversity by means of humanizing the “meeting” and breaking the hegemony of instrumental rationality. In order to deepen rationality and respect alterity, interventions should depend on widening communicative spaces within communities and institutions.
