Abstract

BRITO, Leandro Teofilo de. “I FEEL OBLIGATION TO MAKE STRAIGHT MEN RESPECT MEN WHO ARE NOT STRAIGHT”: MASCULINITIES IN DISPUTE IN STUDENT ACTIVISM. Revista da FAEEBA: Educação e Contemporaneidade [online]. 2023, vol.32, n.72, pp.70-81.  Epub May 06, 2024. ISSN 2358-0194.  https://doi.org/10.21879/faeeba2358-0194.2023.v32.n72.p70-81.

This article sought to discuss the political participation of young studentactivists who identified with the male gender in the guilds and collectives of Colégio Pedro II, a federal institute located in the state of Rio de Janeiro and historically recognized for its strong student activism. To problematize the enunciations about masculinities in the research, the theories of Judith Butler, Sirma Bilge, Ernesto Laclau, Chantal Mouffe, among others, are used, as well as Leonor Arfuch’s notion of narratives to operationalize collective interviews. Among the results, meanings were present in the enunciations that pointed to partial and contingent hegemonizations in the performances of the masculinities of young student-activists in their experiences of political participation in school, interpreted by the ubiquitous disputes of meanings of the masculine in contemporary society, especially by the affectations at intersections with the categories of race and sexual orientation.
