Abstract

SCHERER, Susana Schneid. Charter school: proposal, police networks and educational implications in Brazil. Educação. Porto Alegre [online]. 2023, vol.46, n.1, e-44789.  Epub Apr 01, 2024. ISSN 1981-2582.  https://doi.org/10.15448/1981-2582.2023.1.44789.

This study analyzes the charter school model and its dissemination in Brazil. The research was carried out in two moments: a first, of survey of research and studies on the subject in the country; and a second, of analysis and exploration through the method of network ethnography which uses online data as new forms of data. Charters’ origin and dissemination in the United States is linked to the idea of governance, inserting actors and business logic in public education. About Brazil, the analytical categories covered three points: the origin of the charter school model in the country; the educational proposal and experiences in the educational networks; and the actors and networks of political influence formed. The results show that charter schools are a recent theme in studies and initiatives nationally, allowing the insertion of business actors and strategies as new mechanisms for the privatization and commercialization of public education, aspects that need to be clarified regarding their purposes and implications.

Keywords : Policies network; Educational policies; Education privatization.
